What to Expect During a Massage Treatment


Hello! Thank you for choosing Inner Peace Massage Therapy. If this is your first visit please make sure to arrive a little early for your appointment to fill out paperwork and to use the restroom before your session. We will ask lots of questions about you to figure out what kind of massage will fit your needs. There are certain conditions that will require a doctor's note before receiving a massage. If you are under a doctor's care, it is best to call our office first and let us know before your appointment so we can decide if a doctor's note is needed. 


Some contraindications/cautions for massage are:


-If you are pregnant and have pre-eclampsia

-Uncontrolled High Blood Pressure/Hypertension

-Cancer

Massage could spread the disease. Once cancer is resolved it could be alright to massage but a doctor's note is needed.

-Internal or external bleeding

-Recent surgery

-Acute inflammation

-Broken Bones

-Infectious Skin Conditions

Warts, ring worm, staph infection, poison ivy, ringworm, impetigo or any infectious skin that is viral, parasitic, bacterial or fungal in nature.

-Fever

Fever indicates there's an infection somewhere within the body. Massage can worsen and work counter to what you're body is doing to fight things off.

-Phlebitis, Deep Vein Thrombosis, Varicose Veins, Blood Clots

-Intoxication

We will not massage someone who's senses are impaired from illegal drugs and alcohol.

-Intentions that are sexual in nature

-Nausea and vomiting

-Recent Contusion 

-Diabetes

Massage is fine for people with diabetes. There are two things to keep in mind: First, blood sugars drop after a massage, so you may need to have a snack ready. Second, if peripheral neuropathy is present, deep tissue work is contraindicated because you won't be able to give accurate feedback about pressure.


After the intake evaluation we will leave the room to allow you to undress and lie comfortably under the linens. You will remained covered during the entire massage session. We encourage you to communicate with your therapist about your treatment goals and expectations before the massage and to give feedback during the massage to ensure you get the most out of your session. Afterwards, any treatment plans or goals will be discussed and we encourage you to drink water after your session. We do offer massage packages at a discount.

"In my case, I am 68 years old and absolutely love to play golf. Unfortunately, I experienced a bad total knee replacement that took three surgeries to finally recover. My knee developed an infection resulting in it having to be removed.Following was a period where I was practically immobile and took massive doses of antibiotics to kill all bacteria in my body (they could not identify the infection). During the third operation a knee was finally put in but scar tissues prevented me from gaining total flexion of my joint.
